With careful planning and design a garden can offer interest all year, with something new every season. Spring erupts with bright and colourful bulbs, blossom and the first green leaves breaking. Summer may be filled with colour, a changing carpet of flowers seeming as if it will go on forever. Autumn announces its arrival in the garden as the leaves begin to take on warm yellows and golds. But winter too, can be just as exciting. Those gorgeous summer perennials can now provide seed for birds and habitat for hibernating insects. Leaving spent flowering seed heads adds structure to the winter border, and they look fantastic catching the frost. As the leaves fall berries and fruits become more visible, like jewels on the trees, crab apples shine like baubles and are enjoyed by the birds too.
A garden really isn't just for summer!
